bluereek limited » author http://www.bluereek.com Business and IT Consulting Mon, 01 Aug 2011 16:23:20 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 Irish government role in Banks http://www.bluereek.com/2009/03/irish-government-role-in-banks/ http://www.bluereek.com/2009/03/irish-government-role-in-banks/#comments Fri, 06 Mar 2009 08:59:31 +0000 Barry O'Gorman http://barryjogorman.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!602EBF225ABFA97D!383.entry The account in today’s Irish Times of Dermot Desmond’s questions in relation to the recent appointment of a new chief executive of Bank of Ireland is not unexpected – he is expressing a concern felt by many people.  Even if the new appointee is the best man for the job – the author would not be qualified to comment – it does give rise to the types of concern expressed by Mr Desmond.  Had the government previously expressed its 100% support for the appointment (in advance of the appointment) – directly to the Board or through its Board appointees?  Given the challenges faced by the new incumbent he will require 100% support if he is to have any chance of succeeding.  Perhaps, though, we are still caught up in the whole issue of the merits/ demerits of a broader clear out at the top – as has been previously suggested by some of the more prominent commentators?  Difficult times for all.
