St. Patrick's Day NY NY 2008

The use of the internet and web 2.0 technology by President elect Obama and his team is well documented. Have a look at the site: http://change.gov/
. What a great way to communicate appointments, policy ideas and create a welcoming atmosphere – encouraging people to contribute their views. Seems to me that we could do with something similar, given the current economic challenges for the artist formerly known as Celtic Tiger.
Seems incoming President Obama is considering appointment of a CTO
for the US. Not that surprising when you remember how effectively the Obama campaign used technology in the case to the White House. But perhaps we could benefit from following this idea in Ireland – as we look to up our ranking in the R&D world. Undoubtedly we have made real progress in areas such as ROS. However there continune to be opportunities to streamline how the citizen and businesses interact with government.
Could not agree more with this comment why all this talk about cloud services
. I think this was all well underway when we experienced the 'dotbomb' failure in 2000/2001. Current economic issues have nothing to do with IT. This time the tools are better, adoption is greater, the MS/google/ amazon race is driving the suppliers, bandwidth is cheaper. The latest releases from MS e.g. www.azure.com
are pushing things forward.
Have been testing the dial2do solution (www.dial2do.com
). Seems very intuitive and todate has worked very well for me. Access via phone (ie voice) to various soures e.g. email, twitter, diary, etc. Nice web 2.0 application.
Played Royal Dublin last week. What a marvellous job they have done on the redevelopment of their course. The course was in great condition. Royal Dublin presents a fair but difficult challenge with the protection of the wind.
…not just the pros who make mistakes. Played the wrong ball from a bunker at the weekend…could not see my own mark on the ball…but the rules allow you to rotate the ball in a bunker in order to identify it…with the number of pro V's being played you need to check…mea culpa!
…returned to Carne for the annual pilgrimage in August. Had the privilege of introducing a Swiss friend to his first taste of links golf. We had a spectacular day's golf…two light showers, fresh breeze, bright sunshine and a relatively quiet day on the links. Carne improves the more often you play there. As with many God made links you do require more than one visit to understand fully the logic of one or two of the blind shots. But what a layout…and it gets batter on the back nine. By all means play our top rated links…but try to fit in a trip to Belmullet for fours hours of pure links golf at Carne…I am confident the Swiss visits will be on the up next year.
